Dr.
Purser earned his Ph.D. in
Organizational Behavior from the
Weatherhead School of Management at
Case Western Reserve University and
his B.A. in Psychology from Sonoma
State University. He is past Chair of
the Organization Development and
Change division of the Academy of
Management.

He has published numerous journal
articles and book chapters on
organization design and change, new
product development, creativity and
innovation, and participative
methods for strategic planning. In
addition, Dr. Purser is co-author
and co-editor of four books
including The Search Conference:
A Powerful Method for Planning
Organizational Change and Community
Action (with Merrelyn Emery,
Jossey-Bass, 1996), Social
Creativity, Volumes 1 & 2
(with Alfonso Montuori, Hampton
Press, 1999), and The
Self-Managing Organization (with
Steve Cabana, Simon & Schuster,
1998). The Self Managing
Organizatoin was selected as
one of the Top Ten management books
by Management General. His research
has been featured in such places as Fortune,
The Washington Post, and Training
magazines.

Dr. Purser has been an active
consultant and researcher in both
the private and public sectors. Some
of his major clients in the private
sector include Amoco, Eastman
Kodak, Exxon Chemicals, General
Electric, Metal Container, Polaroid,
Procter & Gamble, Progressive
Insurance, Storage Technology,
Syncrude Canada, United Airlines,
Whirlpool, and Xerox. Public sectors
clients have included Office of the
Governor (Delaware), Calgary Board
of Education, Monmouth College,
Symphony Orchestra Institute, Office
of the Governor (Mississippi), The
Nature Conservancy, Illinois Board
of Education, Illinois Public
Leadership Forum, University of
Houston, U.S. Office of Personnel
Management, and the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency.

of Evolutionary Strategies
Alfonso
Montuori’s research has been in
the areas of creativity and
innovation, systems and complexity
theories, planetary culture,
organizational theory, strategy and
strategic thinking, and cultural
epistemology. Alfonso has taught at
the Saybrook Institute, the College
of Notre Dame; and the South-Central
University of Technology in Changsha,
in the People’s Republic of China.
He is presently Associate Professor
at CIIS and principal of
Evolutionary Strategies a Bay Area
firm specializing in executive
development. His books include
Evolutionary Competence (Gieben,
1989) From
Power to Partnership
(co-authored with Isabella Conti,
Harper San Francisco, 1993), Creators on Creating (co-edited with Barron & Barron, Putnam,
1997), and the four-volume series Social
Creativity (co-edited with
Ronald E. Purser, Hampton Press,
1999-2000). He has written articles
in publications such as the Academy of Management Review, Human
Relations, Journal
of Management Education, and Journal
of Humanistic Psychology.
Dr.
Montuori has consulted on creativity
and innovation, and systems and
complexity thinking with numerous
international corporations,
including Procter & Gamble,
Interstate Insurance, Network
Appliance, Pacific Bell, Stentor
Group (Canada) Kaiser Permanente,
Omnitel-Olivetti (Italy), ENEL
(Italy), U.S. Department of Labor,
University of Missouri Kansas City,
